Tavern Co Social opened on 18 September 2026 at New Zealand House, 18 Water Street, taking over the ground-floor premises previously used by Hooters and Newz Bar. The team behind The Tavern Co on Smithdown Road has brought its breakfast-and-brunch format into the city centre in a 120-cover venue that shifts towards evening food, drinks and live sport later in the day.
What Tavern Co Social does
The venue is designed to work across the day rather than as a single-purpose sports bar. Breakfast starts from 8am, brunch and lunch follow from 1pm, and the evening menu moves into small plates, pasta, pizza and larger dishes from 4pm. The drinks offer includes cocktails, wine, draught beer and craft beer.
Live sport and the room
More than ten screens are positioned around the main bar, booths and seating areas for live sport. The Water Street site also takes group bookings and private-function enquiries, so it operates as a restaurant, bar and social venue rather than only a match-day pub.

The venue occupies the ground floor of New Zealand House on Water Street, in the former Hooters and Newz Bar premises. The opening gives The Tavern Co a city-centre second site while keeping the original Smithdown Road operation separate.
