Liverpool Freshers Week 2026: What’s On, Where to Go and What to Know

Liverpool does not have one Freshers Week in 2026. LJMU, Liverpool Hope and LIPA begin their main induction activity in mid-September, while the University of Liverpool's Orientation and Welcome Week follows a week later.

That matters when you are looking at fairs, society events and club-night tickets. A commercial event advertised as "Liverpool Freshers" is not automatically connected to your university or students' union, and the dates can be wrong for your course.

The short version

• LJMU, Liverpool Hope and LIPA: their main induction period begins on Monday 14 September.
• University of Liverpool: Orientation and Welcome Week is listed as 21 to 27 September, with teaching from 28 September.
• Liverpool Hope Freshers Fair: Wednesday 16 September, 11am to 4pm at Hope Park Sports Centre.
• LJMU Freshers Fair: Friday 18 September at Exhibition Centre Liverpool.
• University of Liverpool Welcome Fair: Thursday 24 and Friday 25 September at Liverpool Guild of Students.
• Do not assume "official Freshers" means university-run. Check the organiser before buying a commercial wristband or club ticket.

Liverpool Freshers dates at a glance

LJMU confirms Induction Week from 14 to 18 September, with standard-calendar teaching from 21 September. LIPA lists the same induction week and starts undergraduate Term 1 on 21 September. The University of Liverpool lists Orientation and Welcome Week from 21 to 27 September, followed by teaching from 28 September.

University of Liverpool Welcome Week: 21 to 27 September

The University of Liverpool starts later than LJMU, Hope and LIPA. Its published calendar gives 21 to 27 September as Orientation and Welcome Week. Most departmental induction activity is concentrated from Monday 21 to Friday 25 September.

Liverpool Guild of Students has already published its main Welcome programme. Confirmed events include:

• Sunday 20 September: Speed Mate-ing, 2.30pm to 4pm; Welcome Party pre-meet, 6.30pm to 8pm; Welcome Party at Mountford Hall, 8pm to midnight.
• Monday 21 September: Big Pub Quiz at Mountford Hall, 7pm to 9pm.
• Tuesday 22 September: The Big Freshers Icebreaker at Mountford Hall, 10pm to 3am.
• Wednesday 23 September: Cycling 101 at noon, city bike rides, and Bongo's Bingo at Mountford Hall from 6pm to midnight.
• Thursday 24 September: Welcome Fair Day 1, 10.30am to 4pm. A Quiet Hour runs from 9.30am to 10.30am.
• Friday 25 September: Welcome Fair Day 2 and Societies Fair, 10.30am to 4pm. A Quiet Hour again runs from 9.30am to 10.30am.

The Guild describes Day 1 as its commercial fair and Day 2 as the societies fair. Both have free entry. The Guild says it has more than 200 societies, so Friday is the more useful day if your priority is finding clubs, student groups or volunteering.

LJMU Freshers 2026: 14 to 24 September

LJMU's Induction Week runs from Monday 14 to Friday 18 September. Students should also check their personal induction timetable, because course sessions are separate from the public Freshers programme.

JMSU is running more than two weeks of free activities. Tickets are due to be released from 7 September. The published line-up includes:

The JMSU Freshers page has times, meeting points and booking details. The fair is at Exhibition Centre Liverpool on King's Dock, not at the Student Life Building.

Liverpool Hope Freshers 2026

Liverpool Hope's Freshers Fair is confirmed for Wednesday 16 September, 11am to 4pm at Hope Park Sports Centre. A Quiet Hour runs from 11am to noon.

The fair includes societies, sports clubs, Students' Union staff, university support teams and external organisations. Check the Hope Students' Union Freshers Fair page before travelling.

Hope SU also lists an affiliated All Access Freshers Wristband programme running from 12 to 19 September across multiple venues. Check the Hope SU wristband page for the current price and booking terms.

One detail needs confirming: the Hope SU page currently says wristband collection is on "Saturday 13th September". In 2026, 13 September falls on a Sunday. Confirm the collection day directly with Hope SU before making a special journey.

LIPA Freshers and induction dates

LIPA's published 2026/27 calendar lists:

• Online enrolment: from 1 September
• International Orientation Day: Friday 11 September
• Induction Week: Monday 14 to Friday 18 September
• Undergraduate Term 1: from Monday 21 September

Check LIPA's own student communications for course induction and student activities rather than assuming LJMU or University of Liverpool dates apply. Commercial Liverpool Freshers events: check the organiser

Commercial promoters also run Liverpool Freshers club nights and multi-event wristbands. These can be legitimate events, but words such as "official", "Freshers Week" and "all access" do not by themselves mean an event is organised by your university or students' union.

Freshers Project Liverpool 2026

Skiddle lists Freshers Project Liverpool 2026 at The Dome at Grand Central Hall on Monday 21 September, 11pm to 4am. The promotional claims on that listing come from the organiser, not from the universities covered in this guide.

Loosedays Liverpool Week One Band

Skiddle also lists the Loosedays Liverpool Week One Band, beginning on Sunday 13 September. The listing describes access to multiple events across seven or more days and states an 18+ age restriction.

Do you need a Freshers wristband?

No single wristband is required to take part in Liverpool Freshers. There are several universities, several students' unions and multiple commercial promoters running events across different weeks.

A wristband is easier to judge once the event list, venues and terms are published. Before paying, check:

• which dates it actually covers
• whether your friends are buying the same one
• which venues are confirmed rather than "to be announced"
• the age and ID rules
• refund conditions
• whether the same university or students' union already offers free alternatives

JMSU's current programme, for example, is built around free events, while Liverpool Guild mixes free fairs and daytime activities with ticketed evening events.

Where Freshers events are happening

Mount Pleasant and the University of Liverpool campus

Liverpool Guild of Students is at 160 Mount Pleasant, L3 5TR. Mountford Hall, University Square and the surrounding university buildings are all in this part of the city centre.

King's Dock and Exhibition Centre Liverpool

LJMU's Freshers Fair is at Exhibition Centre Liverpool beside King's Dock. It is on the waterfront rather than on LJMU's main academic campus. Liverpool ONE Bus Station and the city-centre walking routes are nearby.

Ropewalks and Concert Square

Hope Park

Hope Park is on Taggart Avenue in Childwall, not in Liverpool city centre. If you live centrally, check your university transport and the journey home before an evening event.

Getting home after a Freshers event

The centre is compact, but accommodation in Smithdown, Greenbank, Wavertree, Aigburth, Kensington and around Hope Park can be several miles from a city-centre venue.

Freshers safety: Liverpool's Halo Points

Merseyside Police introduced nine Halo Points in Liverpool city centre in May 2026. They are designated, visible locations where someone who feels unsafe or vulnerable can seek support. The points are linked to City Watch CCTV and provide access to emergency help.

The scheme forms part of Operation Halo and covers key parts of Liverpool's night-time economy. Read the Merseyside Police Halo Points information before your first big night out rather than trying to find it after something has gone wrong.

What to check before you leave

• Ticket: check the correct date, venue and last entry.
• ID: take photo ID accepted by the venue. A university card does not automatically count as nightclub ID.
• Age limit: commercial club events are commonly 18+, but check the specific listing.
• Journey home: know whether you are walking, taking public transport or booking a licensed taxi or private-hire vehicle.
• University timetable: Freshers events do not replace course induction.
• Changes: recheck the organiser's page on the day for cancellations, changed venues or booking requirements.

As of 2 September, the main university fairs and the largest published students' union programmes are already clear, but additional commercial events can still appear and individual university timetables can change. Save your own university or union event page and check it again before travelling.
