Azvex Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery and working taproom located at Unit 16, King Edward Rise on Gibraltar Row (L3 7HJ), on the northern industrial edge of Liverpool city centre. Founded by Adam Henderson in 2021 after his tenure founding Nottingham's Neon Raptor, the venue operates a 12-tap bar directly inside the brewing hall, allowing visitors to drink fresh beer alongside the fermenters and production vessels.

What Azvex Brewery & Taproom does

Azvex focuses on modern, hop-forward and experimental brewing, with a national reputation for hazy New England IPAs, smoothie pastry sours, and rich imperial stouts. The Gibraltar Row taproom is open Thursday to Sunday for walk-ins, pouring beer packaged on site alongside a takeaway can fridge and rotating weekend food traders.

The roughly 6,700 sq ft unit houses both the four-vessel brew house and the public seating area. Jack Walker serves as head brewer, maintaining high standards that have earned Azvex an average rating of around 4.0 on Untappd across hundreds of releases.

Rotating draught lines and the can fridge

The tap board rotates continuously rather than sticking to a fixed core line-up, though flagship pales Electronic Butterfly (4%) and Magnificent Tree Frog (4.6%) appear frequently:

  • Hazy Pales and IPAs: Heavily dry-hopped New England styles, juicy double IPAs, and modern pales with intense fruit profiles.
  • Pastry Sours: Smoothie-style fruited sours often produced in collaboration with international craft breweries such as 450 North.
  • Imperial Stouts: High-ABV dessert stouts reaching up to 13%, featuring adjuncts like chocolate, caramel, and peanut butter.
  • Draught Lager: Dockers Umbrella helles, named in tribute to the historic Liverpool Overhead Railway.
  • Can Fridge: A fully stocked takeaway fridge offering freshly canned releases to drink in or take home, complemented by nationwide case delivery through the online shop.

Drinks are served in third, half, and two-third measures to suit different beer strengths, with pints typically priced around £5 and visitor spending averaging £10 to £20 per person across 79 customer reports on Google.

Tours and tastings

Azvex offers structured visits to the production floor booked in advance:

  • Friday Brewery Tours: Guided walks through the brew house and production floor explaining the process from grain to glass.
  • Saturday Tour & Tasting (1pm): Production walk-round, a pour during the tour, and a tutored flight of three new releases in the taproom.
  • Sunday Afternoon Tours (2.30pm): Shorter guided sessions on selected dates concluding with a tap pour of your choice.

No table booking is required for standard taproom visits, though reservations are available online. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the taproom area (though excluded from the brewing floor for hygiene and safety reasons). Under-18s are permitted until 8:00pm.
