Overview & what to expect
River of Light is Liverpool's signature autumn outdoor culture event, illuminating the iconic Pier Head, Royal Albert Dock, and city centre with 13 world-class light and sound installations. The event runs for ten consecutive nights and is completely free to the public with no booking required.
The 2026 edition centres around the theme "Together", showcasing creative works by leading light artists from the UK, Europe, and around the world. The trail turns familiar waterfront landmarks into luminous architectural art, with ambient soundscapes accompanying the visual displays.
For the first time, the trail expands beyond the riverfront into key city-centre locations including Mann Island, Williamson Square, and St Paul's Square in the commercial district, encouraging visitors to explore new parts of town.
