As of Tuesday 1 September, L1Local has confirmed two new openings in Liverpool city centre this week, plus one in Southport that sits within the wider Liverpool City Region.

The list is short on purpose. Several other venues are targeting September, but without a firm public date there is little value in pretending they are opening this week.

Coffee King opens its Myrtle Street flagship

Coffee King has scheduled the opening of its new Myrtle Street café for noon on Tuesday 1 September.

The company describes the site as its new Liverpool flagship and its second location in the city following its Liverpool ONE outlet. Coffee King says the new café will serve speciality coffee, savoury croissants and cakes, with free Wi-Fi, plug sockets and seating intended to work for students, remote workers and people meeting in the area.

The location is significant. The café is at 1B Myrtle Street, close to the Philharmonic Hall, Hope Street, university buildings and a large amount of student accommodation. It puts Coffee King into a part of the city where daytime café trade is shaped heavily by students, university staff, cultural venues and people moving between the Georgian Quarter and the city centre.

Coffee King's own announcement confirms the 1 September opening date, while Liverpool food-hygiene records show the Myrtle Street premises was inspected on 14 August 2026.

The business has also said it plans student offers during the academic year.

Elixir begins opening week in Queen Square

Elixir is the biggest Liverpool city-centre hospitality opening we could confirm for this week.

The Oxton cocktail bar and tapas restaurant is expanding across the Mersey into 4 Queen Square, in the unit previously used by Tapas Revolution and, before that, La Tasca.

Elixir's own launch page gives Wednesday 2 September as its official Liverpool opening date, but the venue is effectively opening in stages. It lists Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 September as soft-launch nights, followed by a full launch weekend on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September.

That staged opening matters if you are booking. The business says the first two nights will run at a gentler pace with fewer tables, while the Friday and Saturday services will operate as the full launch.

The concept is a larger version of Elixir's Oxton operation, built around tapas-style food, cocktails and music. Earlier information supplied by the operators said the Queen Square venue would have more than 80 covers, a baby grand piano, live entertainment and what they describe as the North West's first Laurent-Perrier Champagne garden.

Liverpool City Council's licensing register confirms a premises licence for Elixir Liverpool at 4 Queen Square. The licence permits the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises, recorded music, live music and late-night refreshment. The licensed hours run later on Fridays and Saturdays, although the venue's actual trading hours can be shorter than the maximum hours allowed by the licence.

Also opening in Liverpool City Region: Digz N' Lidz in Southport

This one is not in Liverpool city centre, but the concept is unusual enough to include as a Liverpool City Region opening.

Digz N' Lidz opens on Wednesday 2 September inside part of the former Debenhams building at 535–563 Lord Street in Southport.

It is an RC, or remote-controlled, experience café. Customers can book time operating miniature construction vehicles around a purpose-built sandpit, including diggers, dump trucks, loaders, articulated trucks and cranes. People who only want food or drink can also use the café without taking part in a driving session.

The venue's official website lists sessions from £10 and says food and drink can be ordered directly to a player's seat. Spectators can watch without paying for a driving session.

Opening hours are currently listed as:

Friday and Saturday: 11am to 8pm
Sunday: 11am to 6pm
Monday and Tuesday: closed

The site is in one of the Lord Street units within the former Debenhams building, which makes the opening part of the continuing reuse of the large former department-store site rather than a standalone new-build attraction.

Coming later in September

Two other Liverpool venues are close enough to opening to keep on the September list, but neither should be described as opening this week.

Tavern Social, Water Street

The team behind The Tavern Co on Smithdown Road is preparing to open Tavern Social at New Zealand House, 18 Water Street, in the former Hooters unit.

Liverpool BID Company says the venue is targeting September 2026, with around 200 covers, breakfast and brunch, food, craft beer and live sport planned. However, the announcement still says the exact opening date will be confirmed separately.

Until that changes, Tavern Social belongs in a September watchlist rather than this week's confirmed openings.

DeeDee's Den & Dive, Wood Street

DeeDee's Den & Dive is much firmer. The new venue from the team behind Diego's Demise is scheduled to begin opening on 12 September, putting it into next week rather than this one.

The Wood Street venue is planned across two floors, with the upstairs Den opening first and the basement Dive following as part of a phased launch. The concept combines country and rock music, a free jukebox, American-style food and flavoured whiskies. See the Confidentials report on DeeDee's Den & Dive for the full layout plans.

What could still change this week

Opening dates can move at short notice, particularly during soft launches and final fit-outs. Elixir's own information already distinguishes between its soft-launch nights, official opening date and full launch weekend, while Tavern Social still has no public day attached to its September opening.

For that reason, L1Local will keep the Liverpool openings tracker focused on confirmed dates rather than filling it with venues that are only described as "coming soon".
