This is a quiet week for football and a busy one for music. The September international break means no Premier League game, but two of the strongest gigs of the month land in this window: Ellie Goulding playing an intimate album show in the Baltic Triangle, and Bloc Party launching a record at Jacaranda Baltic.

The biggest name in Liverpool this week is playing one of its smaller rooms. Ellie Goulding: I Know Too Much is an intimate album show at Camp and Furnace on Sunday 6 September, doors 7pm, 18+.

Bloc Party mark an album launch with two shows at Jacaranda Baltic on Friday 11 September: an early matinee set and a later show. Both are 14+ with an adult.

The touring production of Waitress, the musical with songs by Sara Bareilles, runs at the Liverpool Empire from Monday 7 September. Dates, times and prices are on the Empire's what's on calendar.
The Empire is on Lime Street, directly opposite the station. Dirty Dancing finishes its run there on Saturday 5 September, so the theatre is busy across the whole week.
Jane McDonald brings the Living the Dream tour to the M&S Bank Arena on Friday 11 September. That event page also carries the arena's accessible booking, parking and public transport information, which is the most useful page on the site if you are driving in.

Stewart Lee plays Stewart Lee vs The Man-Wulf at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 September. The hall on Hope Street also has Spell Songs on Sunday 6 September and Rob Lamberti Presents Perfectly George on Friday 5 September.
The cathedral runs a short season of concerts in the nave this month. In this week: Tunde of Lighthouse Family on Thursday 10 September and Boney M. on Friday 11 September.

Liverpool are away at Ipswich on Friday 4 September, the day before this week starts, and then it is the international break. There is no Anfield fixture between 5 and 11 September.
