Quick answer: Farmaggedon is the bigger night out: five scare attractions on a farm near Ormskirk, tickets from £25, strictly 16+. Newsham Scream Park is the closer one: four brand-new horror experiences inside a Grade II listed Victorian orphanage on Orphan Drive, tickets from around £32, open to ages 14 and up.
Both are running this October. Newsham's 2026 season opens Saturday 3 October: earlier than the 9 October date still floating around on older pages. Farmaggedon runs selected nights from late September through October. If you only pick one, the short version is: go to Farmaggedon for scale and variety, go to Newsham if complete darkness, blindfolding and a genuinely grim old building sound worse to you than visible monsters.
Farmaggedon 2026: five attractions, one long night
Farmaggedon takes over Farmer Ted's Adventure Farm in Downholland every October, and the 2026 line-up has five separate scare attractions:
Beast of Terror: indoor walk-through built around creatures, big sets and live performers
Meat Locker: slaughterhouse and butcher-shop horror; gore rather than ghosts
Maze of Death: mainly outdoors, only partly covered (wheelchair accessible)
Hellucination: the fourth attraction on the standard ticket
The Facility: an undead-outbreak story with paintball built in; not included on the cheapest ticket
The important catch: the £25 Original Fear ticket covers four attractions: Beast of Terror, Meat Locker, Maze of Death and Hellucination. The Facility sits behind a paywall. If you want all five, you need Facility Fear or Ultimate Fear.

Between the mazes there's a full scream-park site: performances on the Jason Stage, DJs and flash mobs on Freak Street, and entertainment in the House of Rock. The organisers recommend allowing at least three hours, and that tracks: this is the longer, more festival-like of the two nights.

Newsham Scream Park 2026: four new attractions in a real Victorian orphanage
Newsham has torn up its maze line-up for 2026. All four horror experiences are new, and the route through the building has been redesigned:
SpecimenZ: the blackout attraction. A Cold War radiation experiment gone wrong, played out in complete darkness with live actors and sensory effects. You don't see the scare coming because you can't see anything.
Waxworks: a fictional abandoned Victorian wax museum where live performers stand among the figures. The game is working out which ones move.
Cut Throat Lane: Spring-Heeled Jack in a fictionalised Victorian Liverpool. Newsham's own terms confirm blindfolding is used inside this one.
The Hellfire Club: secret-society themed, 18+ only, and it costs extra. A standard ticket does not automatically get you in.
The theme across all four is sensory restriction: darkness, confined spaces, losing your bearings. The terms warn about narrow tunnels, stairs, flashing lights, fog, sudden noises, duck-down sections and claustrophobic spaces.
The building is doing half the work

Waxworks and the rest of the event sit inside the former Seamen's Orphanage, built 1871–1874 to designs by Alfred Waterhouse and now Grade II listed, per Historic England. It's a genuinely imposing building with a heavy history.
Newsham also trades on its ghost-hunting reputation. Worth being straight about that: the paranormal claims are folklore and commercial ghost-tour history, not evidence the building is haunted. The architecture is real; the ghosts are a business model.
Newsham 2026 dates: note the change
Earlier publicity said Newsham opened Friday 9 October. The live ticket calendar now starts Saturday 3 October, confirmed by publicity published on 1 October. Some older pages still show the wrong date, so check before you travel.
Currently listed nights: 3, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31 October.
Newsham 2026 ticket prices
Standard admission is advertised from around £32, varying by date and release. Watch for the deposit scheme: some listings show a lower figure that is not the full price. Check the final basket total.
Outside the main attractions, the Horror Selfie Museum has been rebuilt with six new photo sets: Haunted Nursery, Satan's Circle, Sweeney Todd's Barber Shop, Fortune Teller's Tent, Asylum Cell and Circus of Horror. The Bus Yard is running the courtyard food operation: burgers, chicken, loaded fries, churros.
So which one is scarier?
Honest answer: too early to say definitively. Newsham's line-up is completely new and, as of 2 October, hasn't had a normal public run. What you can compare is the type of fear on offer.
Farmaggedon scares you with things you can see. Creatures, gore, live performers, big sets, paintball zombies. Five attractions and a three-hour-plus night.
Newsham scares you by taking your senses away. Complete darkness in SpecimenZ, blindfolds in Cut Throat Lane, all inside a building from the 1870s that spent decades as a hospital. If losing visual control rattles you more than a man in a mask ever could, Newsham is the harder night.
Which one is cheaper?
Farmaggedon, at the entry level. £25 plus £2.50 booking fee gets you four scare attractions. Newsham starts around £32.
The maths shifts if you want everything: Farmaggedon's fifth attraction needs a £32+ ticket, while Newsham's Hellfire Club is an optional 18+ add-on. Compare basket totals for the specific night, not the headline prices.
Getting there

Newsham is on Orphan Drive beside Newsham Park: inside Liverpool, a short hop from the city centre.
Farmaggedon is at Farmer Ted's Adventure Farm, Flatman's Lane, Downholland, Ormskirk, L39 7HW. Parking is free. By train, the nearest stations are Formby (about 3.5 miles) and Maghull / Maghull North (about 4.3 miles): you'll still need a taxi or lift for the last leg. Merseyrail gets you close; it does not get you there.

Accessibility and sensory warnings
Farmaggedon: Maze of Death and The Facility are wheelchair accessible. The other three walk-throughs are unsuitable for wheelchairs, walking frames or crutches due to narrow passages and uneven floors. An Access Card and Essential Companion system is in place for 2026.
Newsham: Expect stairs, steps, uneven surfaces, narrow tunnels and duck-down sections, plus flashing lights, fog, darkness and loud noise. Read the full warnings before booking: the building is Victorian and the route is physically demanding.
Anyone with mobility, sensory or health requirements should check each organiser's full accessibility guidance before buying.
The verdict
Pick Farmaggedon if you want the biggest night: five attractions (on the right ticket), a full scream-park site, free parking and the lower starting price.
Pick Newsham if you want to stay in Liverpool and prefer your horror psychological: darkness, blindfolds and a listed Victorian orphanage rather than gore and creatures.
Let the age rules decide if your group includes younger teens: Newsham takes 14+, Farmaggedon won't let anyone under 16 through the gate.
The one thing we can't call yet is how Newsham's all-new 2026 line-up lands with the public. The season opens Saturday 3 October: we'll update this piece once it does.
