Liverpool roadworks for Thursday 24 September 2026, including East Prescot Road, Queens Drive, Walton Breck Road, Switch Island closures and Mill Lane.
Drivers heading across Liverpool on Thursday 24 September face several closures and restrictions, with some of the biggest disruption on routes through east and north Liverpool.
The main new job is on East Prescot Road, where Liverpool City Council works are scheduled to begin on Thursday and continue until 26 October. Live roadworks data also continues to show closures on Queens Drive, Sydenham Avenue, Binns Road, Mansell Road, Cook Street, Regent Road and Warbreck Moor.
There is another Thursday-specific problem in West Derby: Mill Lane, between Town Row and The Sefton Arms, is due to close from 9.30am until 2.30pm, affecting bus services 12 and 13.
Permit dates can change, works can finish early and emergency jobs can appear at short notice. Check the live roadworks map again on Thursday morning before setting off.

Two roads that looked likely to finish before Thursday are still worth checking.
Boundary Street remained listed as live in the refreshed roadworks data early Wednesday, with Network Rail responsible for the closure. Dovercliffe Road was also still showing as closed for United Utilities works. That makes it safer not to describe either as definitely clear for Thursday yet.
Forthlin Road, by comparison, was approaching the end of its listed United Utilities closure when the data was checked, so it is more likely to be clear by Thursday unless the permit is extended.
Morning checklist
Check before travelling: Boundary Street, Dovercliffe Road and Forthlin Road all had permits due to end around midweek. Check the live map at one.network before setting off in case closures have cleared or permits have been extended.
The Walton Breck Road and Oakfield Road scheme is not a short roadworks job.
Liverpool City Council's highways improvements are expected to continue until March 2027, with traffic running in one direction from Oakfield Road towards Liverpool city centre during the relevant phase. The scheme covers the section between Oakfield Road and Sleepers Hill and includes pavement widening, new crossings and carriageway resurfacing.
Bus routes serving Anfield are also affected. Merseytravel currently lists Walton Breck Road and Oakfield Road among its live travel disruptions.

Cook Street has been closed since Monday 21 September and is expected to remain shut for approximately 19 days.

The long-term works on Bridle Road form part of Sefton Council's Maritime Corridor scheme.
Phase two covers Bridle Road and junctions including Bridle Way, Farriers Way and Vesty Road. Sefton Council says the phase is expected to take around 12 months, with Bridle Road temporarily operating one-way from Netherton Way towards Park Lane during the works. Traffic travelling from Park Lane towards Netherton Way will not be permitted.
The scheme includes junction changes together with new walking and cycling infrastructure.
Current National Highways-derived closure data lists full eastbound and westbound A5036 carriageway closures at Switch Island overnight on Thursday 24 September into Friday 25 September.
The published feeds are not completely consistent on the exact start and finish times, with one showing approximately 9pm to 7am and another National Highways-fed service showing 8pm to 6am. Anyone travelling through Switch Island on Thursday evening should therefore check the latest National Highways information and road signage before travelling.
Overnight disruption
Full carriageway closures in both directions are listed overnight into Friday morning. Times vary between 8pm to 6am and 9pm to 7am across official data feeds. If you are travelling late towards the M57 or M58, follow roadside variable message signs and diversion routes.
There are also longer-running restrictions at Tarbock Island. The M57 Junction 1 northbound entry slip is currently scheduled to remain closed around the clock until 27 October 2026, while the M57 Junction 1 southbound exit slip is listed as closed until January 2027.
Anyone heading north out of Liverpool towards Ormskirk should also be aware of Mart Lane.
Lancashire County Council's temporary order closes the road between Bobby Langton Way and number 28 from 8am until 5pm each day until Friday 2 October.
The official diversion is via A59 Liverpool Road North, Orrell Lane and Mart Lane. The closure is required for excavation work connected with the installation of electricity cables.
