Santa's Grottos in Liverpool & Merseyside 2026: Dates, Prices and Booking
Find Santa's grottos in Liverpool and Merseyside for Christmas 2026. Compare verified dates, ticket prices, adult charges, quiet sessions and booking links.
A traditional grotto at the Pier Head costs £9.95 per child, while larger Christmas experiences can mean paying for every adult as well. Here are the confirmed options across Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, Wirral and St Helens, plus nearby farm trips.
Information checked against organisers' and ticket sellers' published pages on 28 October 2026. Prices are advertised rates, not a guarantee that a particular session remains available. Booking fees and optional extras may apply.
Families looking to see Father Christmas in Liverpool and Merseyside this Christmas have some quite different choices. Liverpool Christmas Wonderland is advertising a straightforward £9.95 grotto visit at the Pier Head. Dobbies has North Pole-themed sessions in Speke and Southport, while Knowsley Safari, Santa's Secret Forest near Hightown and The North Pole Experience at Otterspool offer longer outings.
The price on an advert is not necessarily what a family will pay. Some venues include one or two adults with a child's ticket. Others charge adults separately, and some light trails do not include a Santa visit at all. We've separated those costs below, with direct links to the organisers.
Santa's grottos in Liverpool and Merseyside: 2026 prices at a glance
£18.50 per child, plus centre admission for non-members
Non-members must also buy admission for adults and children
West Lancashire attractions are nearby alternatives, not venues within Merseyside. A published date range does not mean a particular attraction runs every day within it. Check the linked booking calendar.
Liverpool city centre: a grotto or a story session
This is a comparatively simple visit. Children meet Santa privately as a family and receive a gift. One adult is included with each child ticket; extra adults are £1 each, subject to the booking limits. The operator says a child under one can enter free alongside a paying sibling, but will not receive a gift unless a child ticket is bought.
Professional photographs cost extra, starting at £6. Visitors cannot take their own pictures in Santa's room. A ticket gives a 30-minute arrival window, not a guaranteed 30-minute meeting. The organiser advises allowing around 30 to 40 minutes for the visit and queue.
The larger Liverpool Christmas Wonderland site opens on 20 November 2026 and runs to 3 January 2027, but do not assume Santa is available after Christmas Eve. Check the dedicated grotto booking slots. Entrance to the waterfront site is free; skating and rides cost extra. The operator says the grotto and wider site have step-free access. James Street is the nearby Merseyrail station.

Liverpool Town Hall: Story Time With Santa
Where: Liverpool Town Hall. Dates: 5, 6, 12, 13 and 18–22 December, plus 24 December, subject to session availability. Price: the published ticket categories run from £5 to £27 (24 December rises to £27; 18 December tops out at £21). Booking:Liverpool City Halls, which hands off to TicketQuarter for checkout.
Father Christmas and Buddy the Elf lead a small-group session involving stories and songs, followed by a chance for each child to speak to Santa and receive a gift. There are no more than 20 children per session. Each lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour, and one adult is included with each child ticket.
The venue describes the show as aimed at ages two to ten. Babies in arms are free with a paying child. There are designated quiet sessions on 5 December at 3pm, 12 December at 3pm, 19 December at 10am and 20 December at 4.30pm. The £5–£27 range covers different ticket categories and dates, so select the actual child ticket before comparing its cost with another grotto.
John Lewis, Liverpool ONE: Santa's Tea Party
Where: John Lewis, Liverpool ONE. Dates: festive dates shown through John Lewis's event booking page. Prices: £25 per child plus £2.50 booking fee, and £8 per adult plus 80p booking fee.
This is a Santa-themed tea party rather than a traditional walk-in grotto. The retailer describes story time with Santa and his elves, hot chocolate, a snack and a PLUS-PLUS gift for the child. Adult tickets include tea or coffee and cake. John Lewis's 2026 official event terms say adults pay separately, with a maximum of two adults per child. Do not rely on listings that describe adults as free.
Confirm the Liverpool store's exact sessions at booking. The attraction is indoors in the Liverpool ONE shopping centre.
Speke and Otterspool: garden centre and longer Christmas experiences
Dobbies Liverpool, Speke
Where: 1a Speke Hall Avenue, L24 1UX. Dates: selected sessions between 21 November and 24 December. Price: £15–£17 per child. Booking:Dobbies Liverpool.
Children move through North Pole village activities before meeting Santa. Each ticketed child receives a collectable penguin soft toy. Up to two adults may accompany children, subject to the venue's capacity restrictions. Professional printed photographs are an additional purchase, with a discount advertised when pre-booked.
Dobbies also offers a Quiet Grotto on selected December dates at £15 per child. The operator says the music is switched off, flashing or twinkling lights are removed or turned off, fewer families are booked, there is no on-the-day queue, and photos of the setting can be sent in advance. The Liverpool calendar lists sessions on 4 December and further December dates; check the calendar for remaining times.
The advertised visit includes a festive train ride to Santa, a present, photo opportunities, the Winter Adventure Playground and indoor soft play. It's a separate product from The North Pole Experience, which is also based at Otterspool.
The organiser's public page links directly to a dated ticket checkout, but the price and adult-charge breakdown weren't reliably accessible during our check. Compare the full basket price before booking, especially if two adults are accompanying one child.
The North Pole Experience: a full Otterspool outing
Where: Otterspool Promenade, 37 Otterspool Drive, L17 5AL. Price: official general admission is advertised from £45 per person, depending on ticket and date. Booking:The North Pole Experience.
This is a multi-stage Christmas attraction with a themed train journey, an elf workshop, gingerbread decorating, an ice rink, storytelling and a meeting with Father Christmas. Standard child tickets include keepsakes such as a teddy bear, a gingerbread treat and a toy, subject to the venue's age rules.
Every adult needs a separate paid ticket. The organiser also offers adapted SENsational sessions; contact the venue about suitability and the exact format. Its FAQ explains the booking-change options and notes that the 2026 payment plan has closed. Check the session calendar for a total family price rather than comparing the £45 starting figure directly with a ten-minute grotto.

Sefton: Hightown, Maghull and Southport
Santa's Secret Forest, near Hightown
Where: Orrell Hill Woods, Orrell Hill Lane, L38 5DA. Dates: 21 November to 24 December. Booking:Santa's Secret Forest, with full-experience dates also bookable via Skiddle.
The full visit combines an outdoor illuminated trail with an indoor Christmas Hub, elves, themed rooms and an individual Santa meeting. The organiser says to allow two to two and a half hours. General admission includes access to the illuminated trail, the hub and Santa, and a soft toy for ticketed younger children. Adults need their own tickets.
Don't book the £16.50 light-trail-only ticket expecting to meet Santa. It covers the woodland trail and Merrywood Market but not the indoor Santa experience. The venue also advertises a general starting price of £18.15 across its ticket options; that is not a verified full Santa-visit price. Check the relevant adult and child ticket types for your date, including booking fees.
Some paths may be muddy and difficult for pushchairs with small wheels. The organiser says assistance dogs are allowed and offers an SEN section with further visitor information. Its ticket FAQ lists a soft-toy gift for younger ticket holders and a 10% non-refundable booking fee on general admission.
Sefton Meadows Garden Centre, Maghull
Where: Sefton Lane, Maghull, L31 8BT. Dates: 21 November to 24 December. Price: £19.99 per child. Booking:Sefton Meadows Santa's Grotto.
Families follow winter scenes before meeting Father Christmas, with a gift included for each child. The centre allows two accompanying adults free per booking and recommends the grotto for children aged twelve and under.
The garden centre advises visitors to arrive 15 minutes before the booked time. It describes wheelchair and pram access, but recommends speaking to staff about any specific requirements. Professional photographs cost extra, according to the operator's current product page. A separate Breakfast with Santa and a VR sleigh ride are available as additional bookings.
Dobbies Southport, Birkdale
Where: Benthams Way, Birkdale, PR8 4HX. Dates: selected sessions from 21 November to 24 December. Price: £15–£17 per child. Booking:Dobbies Southport grotto.
The Southport branch has the same North Pole village format and penguin gift described for Speke. Staff permit up to two accompanying adults, and professional photographs are optional extras. Check the store-specific calendar, as the venue does not run every experience every day.
Knowsley: Santa at Knowsley Safari
Where: Knowsley Safari, Prescot, L34 4AN. Evening grotto: 20 November to 23 December. Daytime grotto: 21 November to 24 December. Booking:Knowsley Safari's Santa page.
The evening Santa visit is £21.50 per child. It can be bought alongside the Enchanted light trail or independently, but buying the grotto on its own does not give entry to Enchanted. Each child receives a large soft toy. The Enchanted event is advertised from £9.95 per person, so a family doing both activities must budget for the trail tickets as well.
For daytime Santa visits, the operator requires a valid safari admission ticket or membership. A quieter SEN Enchanted evening and grotto option is scheduled for Wednesday 9 December. Confirm the separate tickets and times, especially if combining Santa with the illuminated trail; the venue advises allowing at least 30 minutes before or an hour after the trail.

Wirral: Storytime with Santa at the Floral Pavilion
Where: Floral Pavilion, Marine Promenade, New Brighton. Dates: 11 to 24 December. Price: £22 per child aged 18 months or over. Booking:Floral Pavilion event page.
Rather than a shopping-centre grotto, this is a 45-minute story-and-song session in the Blue Lounge. Each child can speak to Santa, receive a gift and take photographs. Up to two adults are included with each child ticket, which makes the advertised price particularly easy to compare for a family bringing both parents.
The theatre lists several sessions each day, but availability changes. Check the booking page before travelling and contact the venue about specific access needs.
St Helens: a shorter visit with Santa and Boots
Where: BrewDog Stadium, St Helens. Dates: Monday 7, Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 December, with hourly sessions at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Prices: £7.50 for one child, £12 for two, £19.98 for three or £25 for four. Booking:St Helens R.F.C. announcement and ticket links.
Children meet Santa and the club mascot Boots. The event includes a selection box, a digital photograph, crafts, mini golf, games and refreshments. The one-child ticket is among the lowest published child prices we found, although the club's announcement doesn't set out all accompanying-adult rules. Check those before paying.
Nearby West Lancashire: farms and a boat trip
These venues are outside the Merseyside boundary but offer alternatives for families happy to travel into West Lancashire.
Farmer Christmas at Farmer Ted's, Downholland
Dates: 28 November to 24 December, with sessions starting between 10am and 6pm. Booking:Farmer Ted's.
The farm has redesigned its experience for 2026. Children receive a Christmas passport, meet reindeer, make reindeer feed and join carnival-style games before visiting Father Christmas and choosing a gift in the Toy Shop. The farm also advertises its play areas; check exactly what admission covers when booking. Staff say they can take pictures using visitors' own phones, and there is no professional photo package. Arrive 20 minutes before the ticket time. Check adult and child prices in the live checkout.
The ticket includes farm admission, a festive train trip to Father Christmas, a meeting in the grotto and an age-appropriate present. Adult tickets also include refreshments. Prices vary by ticket type and date, so use the official booking system for the total cost.
Sail to Santa at WWT Martin Mere, Burscough
Dates: 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 December. Price: £18.50 per child plus WWT admission for non-members. Booking:WWT Martin Mere.
Children take a boat to Santa's Island, meet Santa and his elves, receive a gift and make festive crafts. A child's Santa ticket does not include entry to the wetland centre. Non-members need to buy admission for all attending adults and children as well. Only one adult per child can take the boat; additional adults can walk to the island. Book ahead and arrive early for the departure.
Quieter Santa sessions and accessibility
The most clearly described quieter visits in the published 2026 information are:
Liverpool Town Hall: dedicated quiet story sessions on four specified December dates.
Dobbies Liverpool: £15 quiet grotto sessions with music off, lights adjusted, reduced numbers and advance photographs of the space.
Knowsley Safari: a designated SEN evening on 9 December, with grotto tickets available separately.
A quiet session isn't automatically identical at every venue. Ask about lighting, sound, queueing, wheelchair access, changing facilities, carer tickets and whether a child can leave and return to the activity. If a child needs a specific adjustment, contact the organiser before booking a non-refundable ticket.
What does a Santa visit really cost?
The simplest direct comparison is one child meeting Santa, not a headline price for an entire light trail:
At the Pier Head, £9.95 includes one accompanying adult. An optional photo costs from £6.
At Dobbies in Speke or Southport, £15–£17 covers the child and an included penguin gift, with up to two accompanying adults.
At Sefton Meadows, £19.99 includes the child and up to two adults per booking. Photographs are extra.
At the Floral Pavilion, £22 includes the child's session and up to two adults.
At John Lewis, the advertised £25 child ticket attracts a £2.50 booking fee. Each adult is separately charged £8 plus an 80p fee.
At Knowsley Safari, the £21.50 evening Santa ticket is separate from Enchanted trail admission. Daytime Santa bookings require safari entry or membership.
At Santa's Secret Forest and The North Pole Experience, every family member needs the correct full-experience ticket. A trail-only ticket isn't interchangeable with a Santa visit.
Also check whether babies need a ticket, if the gift is included, whether you can take your own photos and what happens if someone is ill. The booking terms may matter more than a few pounds' difference in the child price.
Where to check for changes
The events above are based on the 2026 programmes available on 28 October 2026. Don't use 2025 social posts or old prices when arranging a trip. Organisers can change individual session times, ticket availability and photo packages. Use the event links in this guide for the current booking calendar before setting off.
