Liverpool shoppers will be able to apply for one of 2,000 free travel and parking tickets to use on selected Sundays before Christmas 2026. The tickets are part of Liverpool Business Improvement District's (BID) GET IN! scheme, and booking is due to open at 10am on Friday 20 November.

There are 500 tickets available for each Sunday, shared across the participating transport and parking offers. That does not mean 500 free spaces at every car park or 500 tickets for each operator. Claims are first come, first served, and there is a limit of one ticket per person for the entire campaign.

Checked: 27 October 2026. Bookings are not yet open.

When can you book Liverpool's free Christmas travel and parking?

Applications are scheduled to open at 10am on Friday 20 November 2026 through Liverpool BID's official GET IN! page.

Sundays covered by Liverpool BID's free Christmas travel and parking tickets
Sunday the ticket can be usedFree ticket allocation
29 November 2026500 across the campaign
6 December 2026500 across the campaign
13 December 2026500 across the campaign
20 December 2026500 across the campaign

These are four separate travel dates, but the BID's terms only allow one ticket per person, not one for each Sunday. Tickets are advertised as valid all day on the date chosen, subject to the operator's or car park's actual opening hours and restrictions.

How to claim a free ticket

  1. Visit the official GET IN! booking page from 10am on Friday 20 November. Booking is not open as of this article's 27 October check.
  2. Choose the relevant offer, such as a participating car park, Stagecoach bus travel, Merseyrail or a ferry ticket, when booking options become available.
  3. Select a participating Sunday and complete the relevant booking process. Check any service, parking or passenger restrictions shown before submitting.
  4. Check your email for confirmation. Liverpool BID says successful applicants will receive an email containing a PDF ticket and instructions for downloading it.
  5. Keep the ticket and its instructions for the journey. The pass only applies to the date, operator and location stated on the booking.

Liverpool BID also directs people to its Christmas in Liverpool page for advance updates. Registering interest or following updates is not the same as securing a ticket.

Which buses, trains and ferries are included?

The GET IN! announcement names three travel options:

  • Stagecoach buses: Free tickets are advertised for participating Stagecoach services. This is not an offer covering every bus operator in Merseyside. See Stagecoach's Liverpool routes for its network.
  • Merseyrail trains: All-day tickets are planned for the selected Sunday. The BID has not yet set out detailed rail validity, so do not assume every rail journey or operator is included. Check the Merseyrail journey planner before travelling.
  • Mersey Ferries: The campaign lists free ferry tickets, but the exact service and route validity have not been specified in the published terms. Check the ticket conditions and the Mersey Ferries service status.

Ferry warning, checked 27 October: Mersey Ferries is currently reporting a service suspension, with services expected to resume in early November. That is an expectation, not a confirmed reopening. Do not rely on a December ferry trip until the operator confirms services are running and the BID clarifies what its ticket covers.

Which Liverpool car parks offer free parking?

Liverpool BID has named four participating sites:

  • Mount Pleasant Car Park
  • Kings Dock Car Park
  • Moorfields Car Park
  • St Johns Shopping Centre Car Park

These are listed on the BID's GET IN! car parks page. A ticket is not blanket permission to park free anywhere in Liverpool city centre. The BID has not yet published the number of spaces assigned to each site, whether a booking guarantees a bay, or the detailed arrival and exit arrangements. Follow the conditions issued for the particular car park.

Who is eligible, and can families claim tickets?

The BID's published conditions say that claimants must be UK residents aged 18 or over. Staff of Liverpool BID and people directly involved in administering the scheme cannot claim.

The rules also say:

  • One ticket per person for the whole campaign. Multiple applications will still result in a maximum of one ticket.
  • No family tickets. Parents or carers should not assume one travel ticket covers everyone in their group. Check children's fares and travel rules with the operator.
  • No resale or cash alternative. Tickets cannot be exchanged for money or sold.
  • No switching dates by default. A ticket is only valid for its specified Sunday, service and location unless its conditions explicitly say otherwise.
  • No replacement for an unused booking. Failing to use the ticket does not entitle the holder to another date, refund or substitute ticket.

The booking confirmation may set out further operator-specific rules. For parking, check the vehicle and access requirements before setting off. For public transport, check the journey and any required identification or ticket presentation instructions.

What happens when all 500 tickets for a Sunday have gone?

The offer is first come, first served. Once the allocation for a particular date or offer has been claimed, Liverpool BID says no more free tickets will be available for that allocation unless it announces otherwise. It has not announced a waiting list.

If the option you wanted has sold out, you can check whether another date or participating offer still has availability, provided you have not already claimed your permitted ticket. Otherwise, normal travel fares or parking charges will apply. The scheme is not a promise of free parking or free public transport for everyone visiting Liverpool on those Sundays.

The campaign also refers to discounted travel and parking offers. Those should not be confused with the 2,000 free-ticket allocation; check the terms of any separately advertised discount before relying on it.

Check your journey before travelling

The free ticket does not override service cancellations, rail engineering works, operating hours or car park access rules. Liverpool BID specifically tells applicants to check the arrangements for the service they choose.

What's on in Liverpool on the free-ticket Sundays

All four Sundays fall while both city-centre Christmas markets are open: Skate St George's on St George's Plateau, opposite Lime Street, and Christmas Wonderland at the Pier Head. Our Liverpool Christmas markets 2026 guide has opening hours and skating prices for both.

If you would rather not spend anything once you are in town, our free Christmas events in Liverpool 2026 guide covers displays and family activities that do not need an attraction ticket. For a walk round the decorations, see Christmas lights in Liverpool and Merseyside 2026. The wider Liverpool Christmas events guide covers pantomimes, concerts and other ticketed outings.

To book something for the same day, check Skiddle's Liverpool Christmas events and Ticketmaster's Liverpool listings, filtered to your chosen Sunday.

Next date to remember: Friday 20 November, 10am. Check the Liverpool BID GET IN! page for the booking links and any revised conditions before applying.
